Home of Kyo Sa Beth Skrobanski

Greetings and Welcome! My name is Kyo Sa Beth Skrobanski and I am a certified instructor of the Korean Martial Art Tang Soo Do and a member of theTang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan Association.

I started my training in Martial Arts in November of 1994 under the instruction of Master Yong Gi Hong at Hong's Karate New Hampton, New York. I continued training at Hong's Karate for three years, 5 days a week under the instruction of Kyo-Sa Jim Cozzette and Master Brent Laymon.

During those years I was introduced to the world of competition. I competed in both forms and sparring divisions. The greatest lesson I learned from competing was not the ability to compete against others, it was the ability to compete against myself, for it took strength and courage to enter the ring and perform.

I took every opportunity I had to compete in local tournaments in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. I am very proud to say that I placed in many of the competitions I entered. For a listing of my awards, please click here.

I tested for my Cho Dan (1st degree blackbelt) in November of 1997 and after a day long test on endurance ,techniques, sparring and even board breaking, I passed my exam and was presented with my belt and certificate.

I left Hong's Karate in 1997 and joined Advance Karate (now called Action Karate)in Montgomery New York under the instruction of Master Melissa Paone. This is where I joined the Mi Guk Kwan Association under Grandmaster Charles Ferraro. I re-tested according to the Mi GukKwan standards and was awarded Cho-Dan rank. I became member of the Advance Karate Demonstration Team and later team captain. The Demo Team performed at schools and local events promoting self defense and discipline for all ages. I tested for and passed my Ee Dan (2nd degree blackbelt) and Kyo-Sa (certified instructor) in November of 1999. Before moving to Virginia in 2001, I taught adult and children classes at Advance Karate, as well as conducting free self defense seminars to various groups throughout the community. Being a police officer in New York and then re-certifying in Virginia, I completed training through DCJS and became a certified Police Defensive Tactics instructor. Having left my career in law enforcement, I am free to pursuit my goals in traditional martial arts and self defense instruction for children and adults of all ages.
